This was the only commercial site we stayed at during the whole trip. What a dump. The first site assigned to us had a large pile of burned trash in the middle of it and the site next to us had an old hunk of carpet in the middle of that. The bathroom looked like someone had taken several shovels full of dirt and scattered it around. They had just had a large amount of rain and the skeeters were fearsome. The skeetoes will usually get after my wife and leave me alone but they had their way with me here!

A very nice state park. We stayed in the Upper Falls camping area and used this for a base camp to explore Mackinac Is., Fort Michillimakinac, Sault St. Marie, and a few other spots. Also explored the park a bit. Saw the falls. Easy access. Trails paved except for 2 sets of stairs to view the larger upper falls from below. One set of 94 and the other was 114, I think. Had a micro brewery restaurant in the park. Great beer batter fried Whitefish. Campgrounds were clean but some folks were complaining about the lack of hot water in the showers. We used them but didn't have that problem. Reasonably clean. After Prophets Town, IN and Little Bay de Noc, MI, the campsites weren't all that private but it was still nice. Another place I'd go back to. Make your reservations early. This place fills up fast. $21/ Night + $8/ day entrance fee

This was by far and away the nicest place we stayed on our last trip. Can't be more than a few years old. Beautiful, highly screened camp sites. You can see your neighbor if you really look. Site surrounded by Blue Spruce and other trees. Site pad white crushed stone. 110 sites 55 w/full hook ups. Beautiful new cedar bath house, spic and span. Monster playground (actually 4, all quite large, including the picnic grounds), if you have kids, but far enough from the camp not to disturb, close enough you could let them go alone. All sorts of things to climb on and have fun with. There is a paved, 3 mile bike path almost as wide as a 1 lane highway. If there is a negative, there is no beach, river, pool. This was an Indian town a couple of hundred years ago. The "Prophet" was Tecumseh's brother. The whole of the park is pretty flat and in wild flower prairie. Just gorgeous. If I'm in the area, I'll definitely go back. This place looked under-used to me.

This was quite a nice place on very historic grounds. Being a history freak, this is high on the appeal level. On the negative side, it's right behind a quarry and, if you're in camp during the day the beep beep of the loaders could be annoying. They do shut down at night. The other negative is the water outlets can be a very long way from some of the sites. Mine was a full 75' away, but we dealt with it. Plus was the friendly atmosphere, nice sites, fairly clean for a heavily used spot, bathrooms and showers were in good shape through out the stay. They do have a huge pool with a water slide. The original and the reconstructed fort are on the grounds. Power was near at hand. I'd go back again.

This is a NPS campground near Escanaba, MI. No hookups or modern facilities but a nice setting. Quasi boondocking. Campsites very private. Heavily screened from one another. Quiet. $11 per night.
